About Amanda O'Sullivan
Amanda O’Sullivan is an Australian contemporary artist recognised for her vibrant, imaginative landscapes that merge paint and collage into layered worlds of joy and wonder. Holding formal qualifications in Fine Art with her major in Printmaking, Amanda has built a practice that celebrates color, texture, and storytelling through abstraction. Her aim is escapism—creating dreamlike scenes that invite viewers to pause, reflect, and step into places where reality and imagination merge. She draws on imagery from old books, magazines, and fragments of pop culture, weaving nostalgic elements such as vinyl records and vintage cigarette packets into her collaged works. This interplay of the familiar and the fantastical creates artworks that are both visually striking and emotionally resonant. While she continues to experiment, Amanda has been developing a series of collages along a unified theme, offering uplifting, immersive works that spark curiosity and conversation in private collections and beyond.
Artist Statement:
My work is an exploration of color, texture, and layered storytelling, created through collage and mixed media. I am drawn to constructing imagined landscapes that offer a sense of escapism—spaces where joy, curiosity, and wonder can unfold. At the heart of my practice is the desire to create moments of optimism and delight, inviting viewers to step briefly away from the ordinary. Each piece begins intuitively, with bold marks, vibrant hues, and fragments sourced from old books, magazines, and elements of popular culture. By weaving these collected images into unexpected relationships, I create compositions that are playful, surprising, and deeply engaging. Collage allows me to layer and arrange these fragments into dynamic interactions, adding richness and depth, while color ties the work together emotionally. Through this process, I aim to spark both reflection and conversation, offering art that feels immersive, uplifting, and dreamlike.
