The Story Behind Four Fickle Frenchmen

Four Fickle Frenchmen continues my exploration of mirrored and layered landscapes through collage. At its centre is Jean Arthur, stepping into the role of Calamity Jane, this time illuminated on a stage beneath the spotlight. Her dress, hand-cut from painted paper, becomes the focal point against a backdrop of muted tones. Lyrics from a Calamity Jane song weave through the piece, adding both narrative and rhythm. The restrained palette allows her presence — and the story she carries — to stand out with quiet strength.
